Keynote Presentation, Hackerfest 2011

Keynote Presentation:
“Billy and Terry’s Excellent SCADA Adventure”

What is SCADA and why should I care? SCADA systems are the computers and software that run the critical infrastructure (power systems, gas/oil pipelines, industrial machinery, cupcake making machines… etc.) across the world. Over the last few months, Terry and I have been on a most excellent adventure. During our adventure, we found critical bugs in software for every major SCADA vendor, worked with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to secure the software that runs critical infrastructure across the world, and we even worked with the vendors that create SCADA software to help them improve their software development processes. Come admire our stunning good looks as we present the results of our findings, describe our experiences working with DHS and SCADA vendors, and explain (in plain English) why our work matters to you. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry… you’ll cry some more, and you’ll walk away with some questions for your CSO.
